Previous releases have separate uninstall instructions for Java Web Start. After Oracle acquired Sun we replanned JDK 7 according to the
“Plan B” proposal in
order to accelerate its release while maintaining performance and
quality. Features that needed more time to mature were deferred to
JDK 8 or later releases as explained here. A handful of
small, high-impact features which were not previously part of the
plan but were finished, or nearly so, were added to the
release.

As a result, pre-1970 data may not be compatible with earlier JDK versions. JARs affected by these new restrictions should be replaced or re-signed with stronger algorithms. Oracle recommends that the JDK is updated with each Critical Patch Update. In order to determine if a release is the latest, the Security Baseline page can
be used to determine which is the latest version for each release family. SSLv2Hello and SSLv3 have been removed from the default enabled TLS protocols. Use the Security Baseline page to determine the latest version for each release family.

Running the Installer

This change applies to all release and target versions supported by javac since all currently supported releases and targets have the MethodParameters attribute defined. Locale data based on the Unicode Consortium’s CLDR has been upgraded to version 43. The JDK locale data now employs coverageLevels.txt, including the ‘basic’ and https://remotemode.net/ above level locale data, in addition to the data already existing in prior JDK releases for compatibility. For detailed locale data changes, please refer to the Unicode Consortium’s CLDR release notes. RC4 cipher suites have been removed from both client and server default enabled cipher suite list in Oracle JSSE implementation.

The previous behavior can be re-enabled after due consideration of any impact by setting the runtime property sun.rmi.server.disableIncomingHttp to false. Note that this should not be confused with the sun.rmi.server.disableHttp property, which disables HTTP-tunneling on the client side and is false by default. By setting the System Property jdk.tls.allowLegacyResumption to false, an application can reject abbreviated handshaking when the session hash and extended master secret extension is not negotiated. By setting the System Property jdk.tls.allowLegacyMasterSecret to false, an application can reject connections that do not support the session hash and extended master secret extension. For systems unable to reach the Oracle Servers, a secondary mechanism expires this JRE (version 7u171) on May 17, 2018.
